In February 2018, the National Poetry Library put a call out for Instagram poems. There were over 1,000 submissions and the best entries were showcased at the world's first Instagram Poetry exhibition, ranging from work featuring striking typographic design to social comments and emotional confessions, as well as a selection of short Instapoetry films.

A whole new generation has taken to Instagram to create and share poetry. In an unprecedented phenomenon of social media, some of the most successful Instagram poets have millions of dedicated followers, multiple-book deals and a cult-like status. The works exhibited provided the perfect introduction to this emergent form of poetry.

Instagram users are still posting using the hashtag created by the library to collect submissions. Check out #instapoetrylib.

Instagram Poetry took place from Thursday 26 April to Sunday 1 July 2018.
