TOAST Live

TOAST Live is London’s newest evening of poetry, performance and spoken word where the UK’s premier writers perform and sit down together to talk about writing.

TOAST is a poetry project dedicated to supporting poets moving beyond the emerging stage. They run workshops, poetry events and discussion panels to create a space for poets to develop their work and hone their craft.

Joe Dunthorne is a graduate of the Creative Writing MA at UEA. His debut novel, Submarine, won the Curtis Brown Award, was shortlisted for the Wodehouse Prize and Commonwealth Writers Prize, and was long listed for the Wales Book of the Year and the Desmond Elliot Prize. It was subsequently made into a feature film, directed by Richard Ayoade. His second novel, Wild Abandon, won the Encore Award and was shortlisted for the Wales Book of the Year 2012. His latest novel, The Adulterants, was published on 8 February 2018.

Mary Jean Chan (b. 1990) is a poet, editor and academic from Hong Kong. Her debut collection is forthcoming from Faber & Faber (July 2019). Her work has appeared in The 2018 Forward Book of Poetry, The Poetry Review, Poetry London, PN Review, Ambit Magazine, The Rialto, The London Magazine, Oxford Poetry, Callaloo Journal, The Asian American Writers’ Workshop, Magma, The Scores, Tongue and English: Journal of the English Association. Mary Jean’s debut pamphlet is published by ignitionpress (February 2018). Her poetry is currently forthcoming from several anthologies: The Best New British and Irish Poetry 2018 (Eyewear Publishing, April 2018), Carcanet New Poetries VII (May 2018), Wretched Strangers: Transnational Poetries (Boiler House Press, June 2018) and The Dizziness of Freedom: A Poetry Anthology on Mental Health (Bad Betty Press, September 2018).

Remi Graves is a London based poet and drummer. A Barbican Young Poet, her work can be found in publications such as Skin Deep, Orlando Zine and NON Quarterly. Her past projects include a residency at Croydon Library with Spine Festival and she also held the role of Digital Poet in Residence with 1215.today and The Poetry School. Remi was a 2017 National Poetry Day Ambassador.

This event will be hosted by Lewis Buxton & Harriet Creelman. Supported with funding from the Arts Council England.
