Voiceworks — Call For Performance Proposals

SLANT’s first event Voiceworks will showcase experimental uses of voice in poetic performance. They are seeking proposals for 5 to 15 minute performances that explore the performative potential of voice and text by putting voice at the centre of their engagement with language. This call is an open invitation.

They are interested in approaches including but not limited to:

Pieces exploring intonation & pitch / tone & timbre / resonance / prosody / volume & rhythm; involving acoustic voice(s) / digital voice(s)/ polyvocality / singing / sound poetry / free improvisation / participatory vocal scores / extreme voicing (screams, belts, gargles, shouts, laughs, cries, wails & shrieks).

New experiments are welcome as well as more developed pieces. Approaches which challenge ideas of what voice can do are strongly encouraged. Interdisciplinary and collaborative projects are welcome along with proposals from artists and performers who don’t have a literary background or vocal training (as well as those who do).

If your proposal is selected you will be invited to perform at an event on Saturday 23 May at IKLECTIK alongside three poets / performers who work between poetry and voice. The selected performers will be taking part in the event on a voluntary basis but any additional funds collected through ticket sales - after having covered production costs - will be equally divided between the event’s six performers.

A note from the organisers:

“While we are still hoping to hold Voiceworks on the Saturday 23 May we understand the current circumstances might lead us to postpone it. If this happens we will give successful applicants as much notice as possible. We are committed to making this event happen and are maintaining our April deadline.”
