Poetry Screen (The Poetry Archive)

An exciting, innovative project showcasing collaboration between poetry and film, creating a space for conversations between visual and poetic languages and established and fresh voices across time, backgrounds and borders.

Poetry Screen draws on a rich collection of recordings. Young artists are being invited to re-purpose a selection of classic recordings on the Poetry Archive for up-upcoming generations or write their own poetry in response to contemporary poems on the Archive. Six children’s poems by Laura Mucha have been added to Poetry Screen’s list of recordings, for participants to create new videos with. Laura Mucha says “Poetry Screen is such a brilliant idea. I’m always thinking about how to make poetry more multi media and accessible – and this project does just that.”

Poets and film-makers can work alone, or in collaboration, as long as one of the contributors is under 25. Entries must be submitted by 1 June 2021 and can be from anywhere in the world. Entry is free.

Five projects will be selected to be show-cased and receive £200 each. One artist or team will be commissioned to create a new video with a budget of £2,000 which can be a polished version of their original entry, or something entirely new. We will celebrate the five projects selected and the commissioned work at an online event on 15 July 2021.
