The Foyle Young Poets of the Year Award is the biggest poetry competition for 11-17 year olds in the world. It is open to anyone aged 11-17.
Participants can submit as many poems as they wish, and poems can be any length and on any subject. Entries must be written in English, but can include phrases in mother tongues or other languages. If you would like to enter an entry in BSL or braille then please contact the competition organisers.
Prizes include membership of The Poetry Society and a stack of poetry goodies, as well as attendance at a week-long intensive Arvon writing course, where winners develop their creative writing skills alongside fellow poets, or benefit from poetry residencies at their school or distance-mentoring depending on their age and location.
