An intensive weekend exploring life writing with acclaimed poet and memoirist Hannah Lowe.
As fiction and non-fiction continue their evolving relationship, the question of how to turn life into art becomes ever more interesting. This weekend course is for writers who wish to address truth, fact, or non-fiction from their own lives, or another’s.
The workshop will explore ways to transform personal material into compelling narrative, looking at work by some of the most exciting memoirists writing today, including Ta-Nehisi Coates, Maggie Nelson, Lyn Hejinian, Alexander Master, and Vivian Gornick, to name just a few. The course will involve plenty of close reading of both traditional and experimental memoir (including work which overlaps or uses poetry), alongside writing exercises aimed to kickstart your own exploration into writing from life.
