Workshop

The Poetry of Sport with Rishi Dastidar

From casual kick-around to serious competition, let adrenaline and athleticism activate your poems.

Whether you think of it as the most glorious of trivialities or war minus the shooting, sport in all its forms is fertile ground for poetic exploration. Maybe it’s the brute musicality of a terrace chant, a moment of perfect athletic ability or even being out of breath on your morning run, but any and all of those are perfect moments to spark a poem. This session will look at how poets have captured triumph, despair and everything between, and share some writing prompts to start your sporting poems.
