Workshop

Poetry School: The Poetry of Movement

A celebration of what the body can do, this workshop will look closely at physical feats we may take for granted and ask how we can make our everyday movements recognisable but new?

A chance to explore poems on the pleasures and pains of exertion, our physical limits and the attraction of risk; we will consider emotional reactions triggered by bodily effort, and what happens when physical odds must be overcome. When Vona Groarke jumps from a pier, we watch her ‘toss every bone and sinew to the plunge’ and I want to join her.

Come and write new poems full of energy, movement and locomotion.

Rebecca Goss’s second collection Her Birth (Carcanet, 2013), was shortlisted for The 2013 Forward Prize for Best Collection, The Warwick Prize for Writing 2015 and The Portico Prize for Literature 2015. In 2014 Rebecca was selected for The Poetry Book Society’s Next Generation Poets.
