Poetry Playback: Giant by Richard Georges

Poetry Playback is a new reading series in which a poet is invited to read from a recent collection or pamphlet in its entirety, from start to finish, as a single, sustained performance.

This is the first series of its kind in the UK. Richard Georges will read from his latest collection, Giant, which is a follow on from the Forward Prize nominated Make Us All Islands, laying bear to the ‘giants’ of nature, empire and unrelenting weather.

Poetry Playbacks are co-produced with Poetry School.

Richard Georges is a writer, editor and lecturer based on the British Virgin Islands and is the author of two collections of poetry, Make Us All Islands (Shearsman Books, 2017) and Giant (Platypus Press, 2018). He won the Marvin Williams Prize for Caribbean Literature in 2015, and has been shortlisted for several other awards, namely the Forward Prize for Best First Collection, the Hollick Arvon Prize, the Small Axe Literary Prize, and the Wasafiri New Writing Prize. His poems have appeared in Prelude, Smartish Pace, Wasafiri, Baldhip, The Poetry Review, The Rusty Toque, Those That This, Cordite Poetry Review, Barrelhouse and elsewhere.
