Jill Abram presents Stablemates: conversation and poetry with Jo Shapcott, Jack Underwood and Richard Scott of Faber & Faber.
Jo Shapcott has won the Forward Prize, the Commonwealth Writers' Prize, the National Poetry Competition twice and her most recent collection, Of Mutability, won the Costa Book Award. She was awarded the Queen's Gold Medal for Poetry and a CBE but refused this honour because of the Iraq war. She sent her antiwar poem 'Phrase Book' to the cabinet office along with a letter saying "I can't possibly accept this."
Jack Underwood has an Eric Gregory Award and was part of the first Faber New Poets series. He was awarded a Jerwood Opera Writing Fellowship and wrote the libretto for the opera The Commission which was performed at The Royal Opera House, Aldeburgh Music and Opera North. His debut collection Happiness was published by Faber in 2015 and won the 2016 Somerset Maugham prize.
Richard Scott was an opera singer. As a poet, he has been a winner of the Wasafiri New Writing Prize, a Jerwood/Arvon Poetry Mentee and a member of the Aldeburgh 8. His pamphlet Wound (Rialto) won the Michael Marks Poetry Award 2016 and his poem 'crocodile' won the 2017 Poetry London Competition. His debut, Soho, has been shortlisted for The Felix Dennis Prize for Best First Collection, one of the Forward Prizes.
