As Dear as the Earth: The Enduring Influence of the Dymock Poets

On Gloucestershire Day 2022 Cheltenham Poetry Festival is offering a series of events celebrating the creativity of the county.

This event will explore the last influence of the Dymock Poets' with two contemporary poets: Colin Bancroft and Rowan Middleton. They will explore the ecological dimensions of Robert Frost's poetry and the influence of Edward Thomas on Eleanor Farjeon's nature poetry. The poets will also read some of their own work relating to the natural world and the Dymock Poets.

Rowan Middleton teaches English and Creative Writing at the University of Gloucestershire. His pamphlet The Stolen Herd is published by Yew Tree Press. He is currently researching the influence of Edward Thomas on Eleanor Farjeon.

Colin Bancroft is working toward a PhD on Robert Frost. His pamphlet Impermanence was released with Maytree Press in 2020 and Kayfabe with Broken Sleep in 2021. His pamphlet Knife Edge (Broken Sleep) was released in April 2022. He is editor at Nine Pens Press and runs the Poets' Directory.
