Peter Scupham has died, aged 89

Peter Scupham passed away peacefully on 11th June 2022 at his home in Norfolk, in the presence of family, sunshine and music.

Scupham was born in Liverpool in 1933. He published over ten collections of poetry,  founded The Mandeville Press and ran Mermaid Books, a second-hand book business in Norfolk. He received a Cholmondely Award in 1996 and was a Fellow of the Royal Society of Literature.

His final collection, Invitation to View, is forthcoming from Carcanet on July 28th 2022. These last poems consider possible visitors to the poet’s 400 year-old house once he and his partner only serve to inhabit it as 'ghosts'.

The National Poetry Library has a collection of over 30 of the poets' works, including postcards, press cuttings and audio. Search our catalogue here.
